Why we're excited about this role:
Geltor was founded in 2015 by Princeton classmates Alex Lorestani and Nick Ouzounov with the aim to create Earth's protein operating system. Today, Geltor-powered products are purchased every few seconds, and the company's proprietary biomanufacturing platform has produced millions of liters of fermentation in the US, EU, and Asia. Geltor is now focusing on scaling its product business and partnering with multinational corporations and governments as the single protein operating system capable of rapidly, flexibly, and reliably delivering proteins to meet their dynamic needs. Over the past three years, the company has invested in completing the engineering, validation, and deployment of its "one platform, many proteins" biomanufacturing technology, developing its IP portfolio, and building the leadership and organization necessary to scale the business on top of Geltor's protein operating system.
This is a role that an adventurous, open and curious engineer can thrive in. You're going to work on the full life cycle of product development - from early stage R&D and tech transfer package development at our fabulous HQ in Emeryville, CA to implementation of our process at manufacturing partners in the US and abroad. You'll be 1 of 2 Gellies with 100% focus on DSP and a part of an amazing process technology team.
What you'll do:
*Lead process development of DSP unit operations such as centrifugation, membrane filtration, depth filtration, adsorption, evaporation, liquid formulation and drying
*Manage process development projects of varying complexity with Techno Economic Analysis as a key driver
*Design, plan, execute and analyze scalable process experiments in laboratory and pilot plant
*Provide input and analysis to process design, establish scale-up/scale-down parameters using engineering fundamentals (mixing, mass transfer, heat transfer, modeling, etc.) and cooperatively work with the teams to develop and optimize process control strategies for fermentation and DSP
*Collaborate with process associates, fermentation, DSP and formulation engineers
*Lead development of technology transfer packages to internal and external CMO/CRO facilities
*Work closely with CMO partners and support process technology transfer to guarantee accuracy, conformity and competitiveness of the process and techniques utilized
*Preparation and presentation of technical reports, data summaries, protocols and other technical and regulatory documentation
*Mentor and provide technical guidance for junior engineers and process associates
What you'll need:
*Experience as an Engineer or Scientist at a fast-paced company that biomanufactures products
*Experience across the full lifecycle of product development from R&D and tech transfer package development to scaled manufacturing
*Ability to travel in the US and abroad for up to 2 weeks at a time; travel is intermittent and varies by stage of project
*Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize and complete high quality projects amidst tight timelines and competing deadlines; exceptional attention to detail
*Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to discuss complex technical concepts with a variety of audiences
*A positive, open, and intellectually curious team player who embraces the challenges and excitement of a growth-stage startup
*Enthusiasm for and commitment to Geltor’s mission
