We are looking for a skilled hair scientist to join our Consumer Innovation and Applications team. As a hair scientist in this team, you will be highly integrated in Geltor’s platform of biodesigned polypeptide-based ingredients for hair applications and will have the opportunity to be involved at various stages of the product lifecycle, from inception to commercialization.
What you'll do:
*Utilize meaningful literature and industry knowledge to generate working hypotheses and technical requirements for new ingredients to promote desired hair attributes. You will collaborate with Geltor’s R&D team to translate these hypotheses into guidelines that can support the molecular design.
*Design and run experiments to define the mechanism of action and demonstrate the performance of new ingredients created for hair applications.
*Evaluate the compatibility and interactions of Geltor products and prototypes with other relevant components of cosmetic formulations.
*Develop safe and stable formulations for topical delivery of Geltor products to be used in substantiation or marketing activities.
*Design, onboard, and implement consumer-relevant predictive assays to demonstrate the performance of new ingredients.
*Conduct in-house tests and/or coordinate third-party studies in alignment with project and department goals for a robust, comprehensive, and timely generation of knowledge. These activities will be performed in close collaboration with the claim substantiation strategy.
*Analyze, identify, and report opportunities and challenges in the fields of interest for new hair ingredients based on the patent landscape and relevant scientific literature.
What you'll need:
*PhD in chemistry, materials science, physics, biology or related field with at least 2 years relevant industry experience or a master’s degree with at least 5 years of demonstrated industry experience in hair science.
*Demonstrated knowledge of hair structure, morphology, chemistry and mechanical properties. Preference for relevant graduate-level work in the field.
*Passionate about cosmetic science and excited to positively impact consumers’ lives and the hair industry.
*Working knowledge of fiber conditioning agents, surfactants, surface chemistry, hair care and hair color formulations. Industry experience a plus.
*To be comfortable in fast-paced changing environment.
*Hard-working, self-starter and team player with excellent organization skills and ability to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously.
*Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, with high sensitivity to a diverse culture.
*Demonstrated skills in analyzing, reporting, and documenting information with attention to detail.
*This is a full-time, hands-on position and you will be expected to be in the office and labs 5 days a week.
How you'll be compensated and supported:
*Starting salary of $115,000 to $125,000 per year, based on skills and experience
